The Next Generation Business Suites From Qantas

In 2028, Qantas will roll out the first of its 16 Airbus A321 XLR aircrafts. This fleet will feature all-new Business Class suites, designed for longer domestic flights as well as short and medium-haul international travel. As the rollout isn’t expected until 2028, details around the aircraft’s international routes are yet to be shared. Keep an eye on our insights page for further updates.

What are the Business Class Suites like on the Qantas A321XLR?

The new suites will be arranged in a 1-1 configuration in an angled herringbone layout – in fact, this is a first for a Qantas single-aisle aircraft. Every passenger will have a fully flat bed and even a sliding privacy door. These suites have been designed to provide comfort and privacy. Enjoy generous storage that keeps technology and personal items within reach throughout the flight. Onboard, you’ll have space to work, enjoy a meal, and sleep on longer overnight flights. The product will also sport a 19-inch entertainment screen with wireless and USB-C charging to keep devices powered in the sky. Travellers will also have access to fast and free Wi-Fi.

These next-generation A321 XLR aircrafts have a range of up to 8,700 kilometres – that’s more than 3,000 kilometres further than the Boeing 737.

This all comes as demand for premium travel continues to outpace Economy. The A321 joins the fleet and carries a higher proportion of premium seats than the aircraft they are replacing. The new suites reflect how demand for premium travel has shifted, according to Qantas Group CEO, Vanessa Hudson.

“Investing in new aircraft is one of the most significant ways we can enhance the flying experience. Qantas introduced Business Class to the world in 1979, and we’ve continued to redefine what it means ever since. These new Suites on our next-generation narrowbody fleet are another step in that journey, transforming the premium cabin experience and the level of comfort for our customers flying on longer domestic and short and medium-haul international services.”

What’s changed on the Qantas Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner?

Alongside the Airbus A321 XLR, Qantas has also announced an evolved Business Class experience for the additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on order – these aircrafts will have 42 suites on each, featuring a sliding privacy door for the first time on the Qantas Dreamliner. Passengers will also have more room to stretch out on long-haul flights on new 80-inch fully flat beds. The aircraft will also feature an updated version of the popular seat, with a wider footwell customised based on trials and customer feedback.
